Today’s world seems to have a large portion of our children on mind-altering drugs like Ritalin. Are our youth really in that much health distress that we need to drug them up so often and for so many years? Health Canada estimates that there has been an increase in Ritalin use of 547% since 1990. There is growing controversy in society about the use of such drugs, and in my opinion, it is justified.

Ritalin is a stimulant and is in a group of drugs that are considered addictive drugs. If you believe that this drug cannot or will not hurt your child, you have been misinformed.

In the May 25, 2004 issue of the Canadian Medical Association Journal a horrifying report was published regarding the amount of people who are killed, maimed, crippled or poisoned in Canadian hospitals each year.

CHIROPRACTIC VERSUS MEDICINE

This topic seems to grab a bit of attention in our society.

WHY? I feel it is only because there is a lack of understanding where each profession does its best work for better health.

Once there is a clear understanding of what chiropractic does for human health, people see clearly how chiropractic is not in competition with what medicine does.

The first issue to deal with is the occurrence of ADHD (Attention Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorder). There are numerous children given this diagnosis in our society. One study showed that 1 in 20 children in North America are diagnosed with ADHD while one in 2000 in Great Britain. Are our kids worse than kids in Great Britain? I don’t think so. The European tendency is to give more weight to social causes and a reluctance to rely on medication.

The seed of a tree contains all the information needed to allow it to grow into a perfect tree, and will do so as long as it does not encounter any interference during its growth pattern. EXAMPLE: A rock in its way or chemicals in the ground. Similarly, people have a brain and nervous system that holds all the information needed to continually and perfectly build all the cells, tissues, organs and systems of our body. We will grow and develop in a perfect way as long as we encounter no interference to our intelligently designed body.

Published in the Journal of Vertebral Subluxation Research, Dr. Sean Hannon’s article reviewed numerous studies published in the research literature showing that chiropractic care has a direct effect on the function of our bodies. Think about this for a minute. Could this improve your overall quality of life? Perhaps you would tire less easily, sleep more soundly, move easier, walk faster, overcome illnesses quicker, become stronger, etc.

MOVE EASIER: Numerous papers showed chiropractic care improved range of motion, muscle tone, and muscle strength.

There are four cornerstones to having health naturally:

1. Proper nerve supply
2. Regular exercise
3. Sufficient rest and
4. Proper nutrition.

This article is deals with the issue of: WHAT IS PROPER NUTRITION? AND DO WE GET IT?

In our society of fast food, prepared foods, processed foods, we are faced with a growing problem of under-nourishment. Our food is continually being sold to us in more variety of ways that are increasingly deficient in nutrients i.e. vitamins, minerals, and food enzymes.

ACCIDENTS OR TRAUMA:
A car accident or simple fall can cause severe spinal stress and result in numerous subluxations. A fall even as a toddler or young child can cause or contribute to health problems later in life.

COMPETING IN SPORTS:
Even though sports help by exercising the body, it can also put stress on our spines. The vast majority of elite teams and athletes worldwide would not dream of competing without first having their chiropractic adjustment. Research shows that chiropractic care increases athletic performance by 17%.
